Make the build repeatable
Use lockfiles and pinned runtime versions. Build from a clean checkout so that untracked local files cannot conceal missing dependencies.
Separate configuration from code
Store credentials outside your repository. Validate required configuration during startup and avoid printing secrets in deployment logs.
Have a way back
Document the last known-good release, database migration constraints, and recovery steps. Rollbacks that ignore state changes can be more disruptive than the original failure.
Make your next step a clear one.
